You Are Paying for Software You Barely Use
There is a particular kind of invoice that shows up in growing businesses, and it deserves more scrutiny than it gets. It is the one for the big platform. NetSuite, Salesforce, SAP, or one of their many cousins. The number on it is large, and the strange part is that nobody can tell you exactly what it buys, because the honest answer is: far more than you will ever touch.
These are serious products, built for enterprises, and at enterprise scale they earn their keep. The trouble starts when they get sold downmarket. A small or mid-sized business ends up licensing hundreds of capabilities to use a dozen, the way you might rent a warehouse to store a filing cabinet. The pricing does not care what you use. It cares what you could use.
Then comes the second invoice, which is often the bigger surprise: implementation. Setup, configuration, data migration, training, and usually a consultant whose meter runs by the hour. It is common for a business to spend more getting one of these platforms working than the platform itself costs in a year. And the training never really ends, because the product was designed for a full-time administrator you do not have.
Here is the part that should bother you most. After all of that money, it still does not fit. One size fits all means one size fits nobody exactly. Every business that runs one of these suites runs it with workarounds: the field that means something different than its label, the module everyone ignores, the spreadsheet on the side that holds what the system cannot, the person whose unofficial job is knowing where the bodies are buried. You paid for a perfect system and got a system plus a human patch kit.
We built our offering as the opposite bet. Start preconfigured for how a normal business actually runs, so day one works without a consultant. Then, where your business genuinely is different, we tailor it. Not with workarounds, but with changes to the software itself, because we build and run the software. Custom-fit is not an add-on tier for us. It is the point.
The pricing follows the same logic. One suite doing the work of the website builder, the CRM, the newsletter tool, the phone system, and the store, for one bill, instead of five subscriptions that each charge you for their own version of everything. And when something breaks at the seams, there is no vendor pointing at another vendor. One call, one party responsible. In this business that gets called having one throat to choke, and it is worth more than any feature.
The test is simple. Take the last invoice from your biggest software vendor and write down which capabilities you actually used last month. If you are paying for a hundred and using ten, and still keeping a spreadsheet on the side, the problem is not that you bought the wrong big system. It is that a big system was never the right shape for you. We are glad to look at that invoice with you and give you a straight answer about what a right-shaped system would cost instead.
